Together with my partner, we worked in Hungary. So we came up with the idea of importing this delicacy to introduce it to Italians. With our cart, we toured patronal festivals and fairs throughout the region, and we realized that we were the only ones in Puglia who promoted this dessert through our preparations.
This is a Hungarian dessert that is similar to our pan brioche. It can also be made savory, but its shape is most similar to a cannoli. After making the dough, we let it rise and turn it into balls. After that we roll out the ball with a rolling pin, making it like a snake. Then we twist it on the roller, caramelize it and soak it with sugar. Finally we cook it on the griddle and in a few minutes it is ready.
It can be stuffed on the outside with coconut, cinnamon, nuts and sugar. For Hungarians, the inside of the cake remains hollow, but we stuff the whole thing to make it even tastier. It is going down a storm and so many people are enjoying this dessert more and more.
